ENDING
After defending the town and castle of Cocentaina from the Granada attack in August 1304, Ruggiero di Lauria moved to Valencia to supervise the construction of a new armed fleet to fight against Granada. However, a sudden illness caused his death on 17 January 1305. By request expressed in his ante mortem will written in 1291, the admiral was buried ‘ad pedes sepulcri Illustrisimi Domini Regis Petri’, close to the tomb of King Peter III in the Royal Pantheon of the Monastery of Santes Creus in Tarragona.
