Along the Roman roads, as one approached cities, sat the funerary monuments of people of varying importance. Below one can see the reconstruction of the access to Lucentum along the Way of Tombs, which led to the Hercules Gate in Pompeii.

The MARQ conserves the original funerary inscriptions of various people interred along the access to the city.

A funerary sculpture of someone dressed in a Pallium (a toga from the Republican era) was found. We know he was a young man by the pendant (bulla) which hangs from his neck, also marking him as free-born.
