The Archaeological Museum of Alicante<\/strong> will host an international meeting next week that will bring together experts and professionals from Spain and other European countries to assess the metal impact <\/strong>as one of the transcendental milestones in the history of mankind.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The congress '<\/span><\/span>Metal and Bone Materials in Prehistoric Europe. From the Iberian Peninsula to the Carpathians'.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong> will take place on 14 and 15 October<\/strong> and will analyse the effect that the emergence and generalisation of the use of metal tools had on the manufacture of other materials such as bone, antler and ivory in each region of the continent. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The Vice-President and Member of Parliament for Culture, Julia Parra<\/strong>thanked \"the effort made to organise this congress of great scientific interest. It is an opportunity to show that the MARQ is much more than a first class exhibition space, it is also a benchmark in research and talent and a meeting place for renowned experts and prestigious institutions\".<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The development of metallurgy at least 5,000 years ago gave rise to copper and bronze tools and weapons, as well as silver and gold ornaments. This initiated a radical change in the structures and patterns of work organisation in societies across Europe.<\/strong>The first of its kind, it stimulated the expansion of trade, the specialisation of craftsmanship and, in short, the beginning of the end of our prehistory. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The lectures will be given by researchers with long experience in this field of study such as Alice M. Choyke<\/strong>of the Central European University in Budapest, and Noelle Provenzano<\/strong>from the CNRS in Marseille. Alongside them, other leading experts such as Selena Vitezovic<\/strong>of the Institute of Archaeology in Belgrade, Justyna Baron<\/strong>The Wroclaw Institute of Archaeology, Wroclaw, Rozalia Christidou<\/strong>of the CNRS in Lyon and Ana Catarina Sousa<\/strong>from the University of Lisbon, will provide a comprehensive overview of the study of the bone artefacts in the early Metal Ages<\/strong> from Poland to Albania and from northern Italy to the Carpathian Mountains. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n In addition, the congress will also bring together leading Spanish specialists<\/strong>The conference will bring together experts from various universities, research institutes, museums and other organisations to present the latest developments in research into this part of the archaeological record of the Iberian Peninsula: From the megalithic necropolises of Portugal and the extraordinary Copper Age sites of Valencina de la Concepci\u00f3n (Seville) and Los Millares (Almer\u00eda), to the Copper and Bronze Age settlements of the Southeast and East of the Iberian Peninsula, such as Los Castillejos (Granada), La Vital (Gand\u00eda) and Cabezo Redondo (Villena), or from the Iron Age, such as Ullastret (Girona).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n With the organisation of this congress, the MARQ, which houses a wide range of prehistoric objects made of bone, antler and ivory in its display cases, continues to consolidate its long-standing line of research in the field of prehistoric archaeology<\/strong>The project, always in collaboration with the most accomplished specialists and the most prestigious institutions.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
