The Brotherhood was constituted on 31st May 1996, with the aim of strengthening the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the civil servants of the Provincial Council of Alicante attached, at that time, to the Provincial Hospital and all those neighbours, especially from the Alicante neighbourhood of El Pla, who wished to join it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Due to the fact that in the old chapel of the Hospital there was a Virgin who was much visited by the sick and their relatives, to whom they went in the hope of obtaining consolation, the carving of a Sorrowful Virgin was commissioned, which was given the title of Our Lady of Consolation, participating for the first time in Alicante's Holy Week on Easter Monday 1997, leaving in procession from the gardens of the MARQ, together with the also recently created procession of the Prendimiento (the Prendimiento). Later, in the year 2000, they were joined by the procession of the Lavatorio. <\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/p>\n As an anecdote and as a reminder of the hospital past of the members of the brotherhood, the brothers wear the colours white and green, which have always been associated with the colours of health care.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n This Easter Monday our brotherhood friends will stay at home, as will all of us, following the recommendations of the health, civil and religious authorities, and of the Junta Mayor de Hermandades y cofrad\u00edas de Semana Santa de Alicante, all present in our hearts, we will remain close to Our Lady, asking for her consolation for all the people of Alicante and for all the people around the world who suffer the consequences of this terrible disease. With all our admiration and recognition for those who day by day give the best of themselves for others, health and essential services personnel.
