From tomorrow until the end of January, the Palau Comtal in Cocentaina will be hosting the exhibition Guardians of Stone. The Castles of Alicante<\/em>produced by the Fundaci\u00f3n CV. MARQ Foundation and the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The exhibition shows the great wealth of defensive heritage in the province of Alicante, which has more than 230 castles, fortifications, coastal and inland watchtowers, towers of refuge, fortified houses, forts and batteries. These 'stone guardians' represent a very important part of the cultural heritage of Alicante's cities, towns and villages. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Throughout history, the singularity of the orography has turned the territory of Alicante into a crossroads and frontier between kingdoms, lordships and cultures, being the direct scene of the confrontation for power and territory as well as the fear of the inhabitants of the coast before the dreaded corsair raids. It is also the scene of countless legends, myths and romances that have survived to the present day. The exhibition presents, through entertaining texts, audiovisuals, interactives and multiple curiosities that lovers of castle tourism will enjoy, several surprising routes through more than a thousand years of fortifications, as well as having accessible resources for all types of audiences of different abilities and levels of knowledge. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The exhibition is complemented in the Palau Comtal of Cocentaina, thanks to the collaboration agreement signed with the Town Council of Cocentaina, with a module specially dedicated to the watchtowers and the castles of Cocentaina and El Comtat, incorporating it into the varied leisure and cultural offer of the Fira de Tots Sants and the thousands of visitors who traditionally come to the town of Cocentaina every November. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Guardians of Stone. Los Castillos de Alicante' is a travelling exhibition which, after its inauguration at the Marq in December 2015, has visited Villena, Guardamar del Segura, Xixona, Orihuela, Crevillente, Calpe and La Vila thanks to the collaboration of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, which invites visitors to tour the province of Alicante in search of these monuments. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
