        The President of the Diputaci\u00f3n de Alicante, C\u00e9sar S\u00e1nchez<\/strong>This morning, he travelled to the site of the<\/strong> Pobla Medieval Pobla Medieval d'Ifac<\/strong> to get a first-hand look at the course of the summer excavation campaign that the MARQ<\/strong> is being carried out at this important archaeological site.<\/p>\n

   The head of the Provincial Government and mayor of Calp, who has toured the different areas of the site accompanied by the director of the campaign and archaeologist of the museum in Alicante, Jos\u00e9 Luis Men\u00e9ndez<\/strong>He underlined the importance of this type of projects \".that allow us to highlight and disseminate the rich heritage and history of our municipalities.<\/u>\". \"It is a question of working to avoid losing everything that forms part of the history of our ancestors and that allows us to offer our visitors a first class cultural and tourist offer.<\/u>\"he said.<\/p>\n

    A total of 32 student volunteers<\/strong> from different Spanish universities are taking part in this work, which this year is mainly focused on the preventive consolidation of localised findings<\/strong>. In particular, in a North wall canvas<\/strong> and in the Guard Tower<\/strong>Both sectors are located in the vicinity of the Puerta de Ifach, where the area is being reinforced to prevent future landslides.<\/p>\n

   \"Thanks to this work, five medieval coins from the 13th century, specifically from the reign of James II, have been recovered.<\/u>\"Men\u00e9ndez explained during the visit, which was also attended by the technical director and the director-manager of MARQ, Manuel Olcina <\/strong>andJos\u00e9 Albert Cort\u00e9s<\/strong>respectively, as well as different members of the municipal corporation of Calp.<\/p>\n

    Another of this year's objectives is to try to finish uncovering the covered access corridor to the village<\/em><\/strong> which is located between the first two entrance gates and which, foreseeably, will provide vital information for the study of the internal organisation of this urban enclave built from the year 1298 onwards by Roger de Ll\u00faria<\/strong>Lord of Ifach and Calabrian admiral in the service of the Crown of Aragon.<\/p>\n

     \"This year's campaign is focused on carrying out major repairs to the wall, which is the area that was in the worst condition. In this sense, we are working to consolidate the Torre de Guardia and also a fragment of the wall.<\/u>\"Men\u00e9ndez explained.<\/p>\n

         The work also includes the extension of the necropolis area<\/strong>a space discovered in 2008 and located in front of the fa\u00e7ade of the Church of Our Lady of the Angels<\/strong>. This building, one of the most emblematic of the site, was constructed between 1320 and 1340 by Do\u00f1a Margarita<\/strong>Countess of Terranova and daughter of Admiral Roger de Ll\u00faria. The work will focus mainly on the completion of the excavations of the funerary area, where so far the following have been located 55 graves<\/strong> with more than 85 documented burials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

      In this enclave stands out one that could be that of a gentleman<\/strong> and another possibly belonging to a cleric or ecclesiastical position<\/strong>He holds a grail or liturgical cup in his hands. Also of particular interest is a tomb in which the following was found a pregnant woman with her foetus<\/strong> and another collective one with more than 16 burials<\/strong>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
