The Chair <\/strong>of forthcoming constitution de Gesti\u00f3n Sanitaria Francisco Carre\u00f1o<\/strong> of the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche awarded yesterday, Thursday, October 15, the White Cane Award<\/strong> to the Archaeological Museum of Alicante, MARQ<\/strong>for its important work in the field of accessibility and as a reference museum in this field. The prize, a bust made by the well-known sculptor Jos\u00e9 Azor\u00edn<\/strong>was handed over by the President of ASISA-Lavinia<\/strong>, Dr. Francisco Ivorra<\/strong>The Deputy for Culture of the Diputaci\u00f3n de Alicante, Mr. C\u00e9sar Augusto Asencio<\/p>\n The 1st edition of this award is part of the objectives of the chair, which will soon be established under the auspices of the European Commission. Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche<\/strong>The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the difficulties and challenges of everyday life for blind people.<\/p>\n The Alicante City Council<\/strong>was presented with a gift from the ONCE<\/strong> with a plate of Level 0<\/strong> written in Braille<\/strong> to be placed next to the original plaque that measures the altitude reference at sea level throughout the country. The plaque was received by the Councillor for Tourism, Eva Montesinos Mas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Another initiative of the event was the handing over of the Tourist Board<\/strong> of the Diputaci\u00f3n de Alicante, of the Blind Letter<\/strong>The restaurants were Monastrell, Rinc\u00f3n del Gourmet, El Maestral, Aldebar\u00e1n, Nou Manol\u00edn, Piripi, El Portal, Marmarela, Valencia 11, Cant\u00f3, One-One, One-One and El Portal. For this reason, the prize is awarded to a person or institution that has shown its personal or collective sensitivity by putting into practice some initiative in this field. This is the 1st edition of this award promoted by the chair and its aim is to institutionalise every 15th of October the White Cane Day.<\/strong><\/p>\n The institutions that have made this award possible are several. On the one hand, the health insurer ASISA-Lavinia<\/strong> which finances the chair in its entirety, as part of its commitment to the disabled (it is the only insurance group to hold the European Certificate of Excellence). DISCERT<\/strong> which recognises it as a socially responsible company for people with disabilities). On the other hand, the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche (UMH)<\/strong> offering academic support to the chair with all its assets in favour of these initiatives. The Spanish National Organisation of the Blind (ONCE<\/strong>) also lending its institutional support as an organisation in favour of this group.
