The MARQ<\/strong> pays tribute to the illustrious Francisco Figueras Pacheco<\/strong> with the exhibition of the work \"General Geography of the Kingdom of Valencia. Province of Alicante<\/strong>\" <\/em>which he himself wrote between 1912 and 1916. The volume, which is very well documented, offers an interesting overview of the geography<\/strong>the demography<\/strong>the history<\/strong>the archaeology<\/strong>the heritage<\/strong>the ethnography<\/strong>the economy<\/strong> or the legal organisation<\/strong>, administrative <\/strong>andmilitary<\/strong> of Alicante's territory.<\/p>\n Through its more than 1,200 pages<\/strong>The book also describes each of the municipalities and cities of the province, grouped by judicial districts and includes numerous statistical tables<\/strong>, colour maps<\/strong> and photographs<\/strong>. This manuscript is included in the work \"Geograf\u00eda General del Reino de Valencia\", <\/em>a project of the publishing house Alberto Mart\u00edn of Barcelona, directed by Francisco Carreras and Candi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n This proposal is part of the exhibition that the archaeological museum started last year and which, under the title \"The Archaeology of the Archaeological Museum\", will be open to the public. \"Book Corner<\/strong>\"<\/em>aims to disseminate and<\/strong> to raise awareness of the library's holdings<\/strong> of MARQ - currently comprising more than 40,000 volumes - through the exhibition of valuable works, as well as bringing cultural heritage and history closer to the public<\/strong> of the province.<\/p>\n Francisco Figueras Pacheco <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Figueras Pacheco was born in Alicante<\/strong> in the year 1880<\/strong>. At the age of ten, he entered the boarding school of the School of the Immaculate Conception of Novelda<\/strong> and, a year later, he started the Baccalaureate at the Colegio Polit\u00e9cnico de San Jos\u00e9 of Alicante<\/strong>. In 1896 he began his law studies at the University of Valencia, interrupted by the blindness that befell him at the age of seventeen. However, in 1907 he managed to obtain his degree and in 1910 his doctorate from the University of Madrid.<\/p>\n Removed from the Chair of Law because of his handicap, focused his intellectual gifts towards poetry<\/strong>, literature<\/strong>, theatre and rehearsal<\/strong>, culminating in his role as historian and archaeologist.<\/strong>. Figueras Pacheco was also, Official Chronicler of the City of Alicante<\/strong>He is an academic and director of the excavations of X\u00e0bia, La Albufereta and La Illeta dels Banyets, in El Campello.
