The year 2015 marks the thousandth anniversary of the conquest of the Balearic Islands and the island of Sardinia by Mujahid, lord of the Taifa of Denia. On this occasion, the MARQ wishes to join the various events organised by the Museum and the Denia Town Council, with the celebration of this international conference of archaeological studies and research on the revision of this crucial historical event, which was the expansion of Denia around the Mediterranean at the beginning of the 11th century. At this conference, various specialists will analyse and update our knowledge of al-Andalus in the general context of the end of the Caliphate and the Taifa period, with special emphasis on the archaeology and history of the Taifa of Denia. Studies and analyses of a broad geographical vision that extend and are understood from the political-commercial relations that the Taifa of Denia maintained with the Fatimid Empire of Egypt, with the North African governments and the emerging Christian Kingdoms and Republics of the northern Mediterranean; without forgetting the role it played in the dynamics of the various Taifas of the interior of the Peninsula, especially taking into account that its territory extended to Segura de la Sierra itself, in the current province of Ja\u00e9n.<\/span><\/p>\nAll of this is analysed and reviewed from the perspective of the Umayyad caliphate of C\u00f3rdoba and its subsequent decomposition into various local powers, interested in justifying their legitimacy in the continuity of the power of al-Andalus.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
