The MARQ <\/strong>welcomes until 17 February 2013 <\/strong>the exhibition \"<\/em>Santa Pola<\/em><\/strong>.<\/em>Archaeology and Museum<\/em><\/strong>\", <\/em>an exhibition that includes a selection of the main archaeological artefacts found in the excavations at this coastal locality<\/strong>. Most of them coming from theMuseum of the Sea <\/strong>The objects on display reflect the cultural heritage of this land.<\/p>\n

The President of the Alicante Provincial Council Luisa Pastor <\/strong>and the mayor of Santa Pola Miguel Zaragoza <\/strong>have unveiled the exhibition this morning, together with the deputy for Culture Juan Bautista Rosell\u00f3<\/strong>the technical director of MARQ Manuel Olcina<\/strong>and the curator and director of the Museo del Mar Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 S\u00e1nchez<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Pastor pointed out that Santa Pola is our protagonist today. With this exhibition we aim to highlight and highlight the cultural vestiges of this town, which is historically linked to the sea and its trades. The archaeological objects on display in this exhibition will help us to draw a more complete picture of our common past, because the history of the province of Alicante has been built with the evolution of each of its municipalities.<\/u>.<\/p>\n

The history of all of them is an irreplaceable piece of the common past that identifies us as a people. This is precisely one of the reasons that encourage the Provincial Council to turn the Provincial Archaeological Museum into the nucleus of the heritage wealth of this province. Supporting the municipalities in the preservation, enhancement and dissemination of their respective cultural legacies is an essential element of its philosophy.<\/u>said the President.<\/p>\n

A total of 211 objects<\/strong>make up this collection which, in addition to the most important collections of the Museum of the Sea, includes archaeological pieces deposited in other complexes and which belong to the heritage of the town. Emblematic works such as a Votive altar from Roman times <\/strong>dedicated to Venus, the white marble sarcophagus <\/strong>which depicts the abduction of Proserpina by Pluto, coming from the Archaeological Museum of Catalonia<\/strong>the important collection of prehistoric materials from the Aranyes Cave<\/strong>based in the Archaeological and History Museum of Elche<\/strong>or the 'Glass mat<\/strong><\/em>with the Christian symbol of the chrismion of the National Archaeological Museum of Madrid<\/strong>are exhibited in the Alicante centre.<\/p>\n

Miguel Zaragoza stated that I hope that you and all the people of Santa Pola will feel proud of this exhibition, which is a collection of the history of our municipality. Many cultures have passed through our town and, thanks to the work of the archaeologists and the excellent professionals of the Diputaci\u00f3n Provincial, it has been possible to display Santa Pola's heritage in each and every corner of its Castle-Fortress.<\/u>.<\/p>\n

Prehistory, Iberian and Greek times, Roman times, the Middle Ages, the Modern Age and the Contemporary Age are the stages that are recreated in this exhibition, which presents the Port of Santa Pola as a common thread <\/strong>and which is also completed with the publication of a didactic catalogue<\/strong>the development of audio guides <\/strong>and the implementation of a audiovisual <\/strong>which contains information about the history of Santa Pola and the Museum of the Sea.<\/p>\n

In addition, around twenty pieces from the Iberian period have been restored<\/strong>,Roman and modern <\/strong>such as amphorae, Iberian pots and glass objects, and among which the score of the <\/strong>'motet-hymn<\/strong>composed for the Our Lady of Loreto<\/strong>patron saint of this town in Baix Vinalop\u00f3.<\/p>\n

The Foundation of the Valencian Community MARQ <\/strong>and the Santa Pola Town Hall <\/strong>signed a collaboration agreement last June for the joint production of this exhibition, which brings the exhibition to the public. local heritage and the past of the municipality's land <\/strong>through material collections dating from prehistoric times to the present day.<\/p>\n

Luisa Pastor commented that We must congratulate ourselves for achieving the synergy of two museum institutions such as the MARQ and the Sea and Fishing Museum of Santa Pola, which join forces and resources to disseminate the memory of our traditions to society with the scientific rigour and the informative and didactic format that so characterises the Alicante complex.<\/u><\/p>\n

This is the tenth show of the programme \"Municipal Museums at MARQ<\/strong>\"an initiative that started in 2004<\/strong>and with which the Alicante complex aims to showcase the most important archaeological collections in the province of Alicante.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n
