It was the monumental script used primarily on the walls of temples and tombs and is one of the most representative symbols of the ancient Pharaonic civilisation. For a long time, hieroglyphic signs were considered to be pictorial characters, but after their decipherment by Fran\u00e7ois Champollion, it was established that it was a script combining ideographic, phonetic and symbolic signs.
