The Provincial Monuments Commission of Alicante (1844-1964). An analysis of its actions through the historical press.
Spain's Provincial Monuments Commissions were the first institutions to manage Spain's historical heritage. Through their conservation and protection, the aim was to carry out an exhaustive control of the assets that had been liberated after the Disentailment of Mendizábal. In the province of Alicante, this institution developed several lines of action throughout its century and a half of life, and many of them were reflected in the press at the time, and therefore, in the public opinion of Alicante society. This article aims to show the scope of the institution's actions as reflected in the press.
