The development of the Assyrian Reliefs
Between the 9th and 8th centuries BC, the kingdom of Assyria, located in the northern part of present-day Iraq, came to dominate the entire Near East and extended its empire, at its height, from Iran to Egypt. The power and wealth of the Assyrian kings are reflected in the magnificent reliefs that once covered the brick walls of their
palaces. The motifs and style of depictions varied as the Assyrian empire expanded, giving rise to some of the most outstanding sculptural works of antiquity.
