Activity Report 2000-2003
In September 2000 the Provincial Archaeological Museum opened its doors in the old Hospital de San Juan de Dios with four rooms and on the 22nd of May 2002 it was inaugurated in the presence of Queen Sofia, on this occasion in full, with seven rooms: five dedicated to the History of the province of Alicante and three thematic rooms dedicated to Field, Urban and Underwater Archaeology. A year later, the Cave Art Room of Castell de Castells was inaugurated. Since its opening, the MARQ has developed a wide range of activities that we have listed in five main sections: Exhibitions, Courses, Conferences, Conferences and book presentations, published by the MARQ itself, or in collaboration with other institutions. The following is a general description of the archaeological actions carried out in the Tossal de Manises and Cova d'en Pardo, the excavation and prospecting campaigns, as well as the enhancement and museumisation of l'Illeta dels Banyets de Campello. Finally, the conservation of collections, restoration and library work, collaboration in exhibitions and the European Union cooperation programmes in which the MARQ has been involved: Peregrinus, Orion, ANSER and its Seminar, Medelhavsmusset projects, and finally the educational activities, with the competition for the development of these activities, are briefly explained.
