The archaeological excavation of the Hermitage of Sant Joan (Xàbia, Marina Alta)
In 2010, the Municipal Mvsev of Xàbia carried out a salvage excavation in the hermitage of Sant Joan, a late medieval building used in the 19th-20th centuries as a burial chapel in the old municipal cemetery of Xàbia. The intervention has uncovered thirty graves, excavated on the geological ground, corresponding to twenty adults and ten child burials; burials carried out between 1817 and 1849, although from the ceramic panels that were preserved in the chapel we know that in 1862 a burial was carried out.
