Signing the jar, marking history. Marks and graffiti on the ceramics of Santa María de Alicante
One of the most interesting aspects usually offered by any study that focuses on medieval ceramic production is the analysis of the marks that are usually present on the pieces. This is the case of the ceramic ensemble of the Church of Santa María, where an enormous number of marks, stamps and graffiti have been recorded on the exterior surface of the pieces. This article presents the different types of marks documented and proposes a different working hypothesis for their origin to those proposed so far in this type of study.
