Balearic Taifa Epigraphy
The inscriptions under study have appeared in different parts of the islands in the territory governed by the medieval Islamic taifa of Denia. The epigraphs on most of these tombstones have been interpreted and edited, but it seemed opportune to re-examine this material because the information provided by all these stones helps us to better understand the Islamic past of the Balearic Islands in the 11th century and, by extension, of the Iberian Peninsula. It was essential to undertake a new analysis in order to shed further light on the political, social and religious influences in the eastern part of the peninsula and to reflect on the practices followed in relation to the rituals of death.
