The Provincial Museum of Alicante and its occupation during the Spanish Civil War by the Service for the Recovery and Defence of National Artistic Heritage.
During the Spanish Civil War and the early years of Francoism, the Provincial Museum of Alicante was occupied by the National Artistic Heritage Recovery Service. An entity created by the Ministry of National Education with the aim of recovering and returning the heritage seized by the Junta de Incautación y Protección del Patrimonio Artístico del bando republicano (Board for the Seizure and Protection of the Artistic Heritage of the Republican side). This article provides an approach to the development and scale of this event thanks to the documentation generated by the Service.
