The Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante as a tool of political vindication in the popular festivities of local tradition: the Bonfires of San Juan (1928-1944).
The celebration of the first Fogueres de Sant Joan at the end of June 1928 allowed different artists and cultural institutions in the city of Alicante to claim, through the exhibition of these ephemeral monuments and in a satirical tone, different problems that affected the progress of Alicante society, among which was the creation and maintenance of the Provincial Museum of Alicante (later Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante). In this article we present, from a historiographical point of view, the story of two of the monuments that vindicated those issues between 1928 and 1944: "El Tío Cuc y el Cuquet en globo" in the Plaza del Teatro Principal and "El Museo Provincial o lo que le hace falta a Alicante" in the district of Calvo Sotelo.
