Archaeozoology of the castle of Ambra (Pego, Alicante)
The vicissitudes of the Almohad Muslims in the face of the Christian conquest of the lands of the North of Alicante and the subsequent period of settlement, has one of its concrete manifestations in the treatment of the livestock that coexisted with the man and the exploitation of the ecological environment that surrounded them. This convulsive situation is reflected in all kinds of temporary conditioning factors that determine a specific form of action, causing differences between the two cultures. The relationship in this short period of time between material culture, the use of the plant environment and the use of domestic and wild animals, offers diverse results that are a consequence not only of the cultural concepts but also of the tensions between conquerors and conquered.
