The Almudaina Almohad Tower fulfils sixteen years since its opening to the public and to celebrate it, the Diputación de Alicante and the Fundación CV MARQ have organised a open days with free entry which will take place on 14 and 15 August.
The Deputy for Culture, Juan de Dios Navarroexplained that "this initiative contributes to boosting cultural and tourist activity in this inland town of our province during the summer period, showing its historical and scenic wealth, as well as promoting a unique enclave of great heritage value such as the Almudaina Almohad Tower, recovered for the whole of society after its purchase in December 1999 from its previous owners.".
Bien de Interés Cultural with the status of Monumentthe Almudaina Tower is a "site museum". that introduces the visitor to the knowledge and enjoyment of its architecture, the landscape that surrounds it and also its history. The Tower, open to the public since 14 August 2009It was part of the fortified enclosure of the existing small farmhouse, known as "al-Mudayyina", the origin of the current town of Almudaina, in the mountainous region of El Comtat, 587 metres above sea level. An agricultural village with just over a hundred inhabitants whose history is linked to this Almohad Islamic building erected in the first half of the 13th century, to defend its small farmhouse at the gates of the Christian conquest.
