The MARQ exhibition on the figure of Roger de LLúria comes to the Palau Comtal in Cocentaina

    

The proposal coincides with the 720th anniversary of the death of the nobleman, who left a deep heritage mark in the north of the province of Alicante.

The MARQ has presented this morning in Cocentaina the exhibition that recovers the figure of Roger de Llúria and his second wife, Saurina d'EntençaThe 720th anniversary of the death of the nobleman, whose career left a deep historical and patrimonial mark on the site of Pobla de Ifach.

The Deputy for Culture, Juan de Dios Navarroand the mayor of Cocentaina, Rubén MuñozThe exhibition was inaugurated at the Palau Comtal, with the collaboration of the CV MARQ Foundation and the Banco Sabadell Foundationas well as the town councils of Cocentaina and Calp, a town that already hosted the travelling exhibition a few months ago.

"It is very satisfying to see materialised in this exhibition more than two decades of work and research at the medieval site of Pobla de Ifach promoted by the Diputación de Alicante, through the MARQ, thanks to the aid programmes for the conservation, recovery and dissemination of the extraordinary heritage legacy that we treasure in the province."said the MEP.

The event was also attended by the director of the MARQ, Manuel Olcinathe manager of the Fundación CV MARQ, Josep Albert Cortésthe Cocentaina Heritage councillor, Francisco PayáThe representative of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, Silvia Sanchezthe curator of the exhibition, José Luis Menéndezand the Cocentaina Cultural Heritage technician, Elisa Domenech.

Llúria, Lords and Ladies of the Earth' has brought to public light for the first time two of the most important pieces uncovered in the excavations of the Pobla de Ifachpart of the vault of the church of Santa María de Ifach and a window of the manor house which preserves a spectacular capital. The exhibition also includes a graphic storyThe comic strip, which traces the main milestones in the lives of these two noblemen with historical scenes inspired by the medieval illustrations from the Morgan Bible.

The MARQ technician and director of the excavations at Pobla de Ifach, José Luis Menéndez, a specialist in medieval archaeology, highlighted the research and work carried out at the Calpe archaeological site which, among many other conclusions, has led to the enhancement of the figure of Roger de Llúria and Saurina d'Entença, ".as both had a significant influence on the development of Calp and Cocentaina and had a transcendental influence on the evolution of this region.".

The exhibition will be on display for a whole year at the Palau Comtal Exhibition Hall.
