
- The backbone of this self-produced initiative is the archaeological site of Tossal de Manises, the object of research, restoration, enhancement, protection and dissemination by the Diputación de Manises.
- Some thirty Spanish cultural organisations are collaborating in the loan of some of the 661 pieces that make up the chronological journey.
"Cities of Light. Ákra Leuké, Lvcentvm, Laqant". has been visited by around 50,000 people since its inauguration at the Archaeological Museum of Alicante last December. The exhibition, which presents the succession of ancient cities that have shaped the present-day Alicante, thus faces its last month in the museum before closing on 7 September.
Through a tour of the three temporary halls and the MARQ Library, the exhibition offers a chronological narrative in which the public can learn about the history of the historical occupation of La Albuferetausing as a backbone the Tossal de Manises archaeological siteespecially in the interval between the middle of the first millennium BC and the end of the first millennium AD.
With uninterrupted visiting hours in summer from 10:00 to 22:00 hours, from Tuesday to Saturday, and from 10:00 to 14:00 hours, on Sundays and public holidays, "Cities of Light" is a proposal promoted by the Diputación de Alicante through the MARQ and the C.V. MARQ Foundationwith the collaboration of the ASISA and La Caixa foundations. In addition, the exhibition includes the participation of thirty cultural organisations Spanish museums, archives and foundations, which have lent their materials to facilitate the contextualisation and understanding of the subject matter addressed.
Cities of Light houses more than 660 pieces and is curated by Manuel Olcinadirector of MARQ; Rafael PérezThe exhibition was organised by the Director of the Architecture Department of the Provincial Council, and the excavation technicians of the Fundación C.V. MARQ, Antonio Guilabert and Eva Tendero.
