MARQ and 'La Caixa' Foundation renew collaboration to promote culture among vulnerable groups

  • More than 3,000 people benefited last year from the Didactics, Accessibility and Social Responsibility programmes of the CV MARQ Foundation.

  • Juan de Dios Navarro recalls that this agreement makes the social function of museums possible and contributes to guaranteeing access for all citizens to the cultural offerings of the Diputación de Alicante.

The CV MARQ Foundation and "la Caixa" Foundation have renewed the collaboration agreement with which they promote, for yet another year, activities and educational programmes for bringing culture closer to groups in vulnerable situations in the province of Alicante.

With a 30,000 euros for this financial year.the agreement signed by the deputy for Culture and vice-president of the MARQ Foundation, Juan de Dios Navarroand the Deputy Director General of Culture and Territory of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Rafael Fernando ChuecaThe "Museo Arqueológico de Alicante", enables vulnerable groups to access the cultural resources offered by the Archaeological Museum of Alicante and its archaeological sites. "The agreement strengthens MARQ's social function as an inclusive space, helping to guarantee equal rights and access to culture, history and heritage for all citizens."said Navarro.

Thus, in the field of inclusive education, this collaboration has led to the development of the easy-to-read guides and the pictogram guides of MARQ. With regard to accessibility, 3D pieces have been reproduced in 3D-Tocables for the permanent exhibition and for temporary exhibitions, both for display to the public and for use in educational workshops; the reproduction in models of museum spaces, sites and monuments; supports with designs adapted to universal accessibility regulations; tactile maps of the museum, sites and monuments; the creation of QR in sign language of the contents of the MARQ; and training courses for the staff of the MARQ Foundation in sign language and on people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

With regard to the social projects developed by the MARQ Foundation in which the "la Caixa" Foundation has collaborated, the following are worthy of mention A fairytale hospital', for children with a long stay in hospital at the General Hospital of Alicante; the project with the Penitentiary Institutions C.P. Fontcalent-Alicante Coming back with a new storyThe programme also includes guided visits and workshops for beneficiaries of social entities, community centres, social centres and CAE educational centres.

Also supported by the agreement are the visits and workshops carried out by Fundación del Secretariado Gitano, Save Children and Ayuda en Acción of Alicante. As well as projects that are supported by this agreement such as MARQ: Museum and memory against Alzheimer's diseasein collaboration with AFA Alicante and the Hospital de Sant Vicent del Raspeig; the project with people with gambling addiction in collaboration with the Asociación "Vida Libre-Alicante"; the project Experience the MARQdeveloped with the Department of Social Action of the Alicante City Council; the training project MARQ +65 for the Elderly: ASAUTE, CEA-Parque Galicia and CEA-Pio XII in Alicante; the project EMPOWER PARENTSwith ASPALI and families with people with ASD; the project History without Barriers with APSA; and finally, the Family Intervention project, with guided visits to children and families.

This sum of programmes and actions in the area of didactics and accessibility, in which the "la Caixa" Foundation is financially involved, have led to the MARQ being internationally recognised in 2024 with the DASA awardThis award highlights the importance of educational programmes in cultural centres and museums that stand out for their innovative and daring approach, with the aim of facilitating access to culture for all citizens regardless of their origin, level of education and abilities.
