The MARQ has presented this morning in Calp an exhibition that recovers the figure of Roger de Llúria and his second wife, Saurina d'EntençaThe 720th anniversary of the death of the nobleman, whose career left a deep historical and patrimonial mark on the site of Pobla de Ifach.
The Deputy for Culture, Juan de Dios Navarroand the mayoress of Calp, Ana Salahave been inaugurated in the Jaume Pastor i Fluixà" Cultural Centre the exhibition, in which also collaborated the CV MARQ Foundation and the Banco Sabadell Foundationas well as the town councils of Calp and Cocentaina, a town that will also host the travelling exhibition due to its links with the medieval character.
"It is very satisfying to see materialised in this exhibition more than two decades of work and research at the medieval site of Pobla de Ifach promoted by the Diputación de Alicante, through the MARQ, thanks to the aid programmes for the conservation, recovery and dissemination of the extraordinary heritage legacy that we treasure in the province."said the MEP.
Llúria, Lords and Ladies of the Earth' has brought to public light for the first time two of the most important pieces uncovered in the excavations of the Pobla de Ifachpart of the vault of the church of Santa María de Ifach and a window of the manor house which preserves a spectacular capital. The exhibition also includes a graphic storyThe comic strip, which traces the main milestones in the lives of these two noblemen with historical scenes inspired by the medieval illustrations from the Morgan Bible.
The proposal is curated by the MARQ technician and director of the excavations at Pobla de Ifach, José Luis MenéndezThe exhibition is coordinated on each of the itineraries by Amparo González Martínezcoordinator of Culture of the Calp Town Council, and of Elisa Domenech FausThe technical director of the Palau Comtal Municipal Museum in Cocentaina. Menéndez highlighted the research and work carried out at the archaeological site in Cocentaina, which, among many other conclusions, has led to the enhancement of the figure of Roger de Llúria and Saurina d'Entença, "...and the work carried out at the archaeological site in Calpe.as both had a significant influence on the development of Calp and Cocentaina and had a transcendental influence on the evolution of this region.". In fact, the touring exhibition, designed by Ángel Rocamora Architects, has both locations as exhibition venues.
The event was also attended by the mayor of Cocentaina, Rubén Muñoz Sánchezthe councillor of Culture of Calp, Guillermo Sendrathe director of MARQ, Manuel Olcinathe manager of the Fundación CV MARQ, Josep Albert Cortésand the representative of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, Gordon Steinecke.
The exhibition at the Jaume Pastor i Fluixà" Cultural Centre will remain open during the months of July and August, from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 to 14:00, with free access. In Cocentaina, the exhibition can be visited for a whole year from October 2025 at the Palau Comtal Exhibition Hall.
