The director of the MARQ will present the experience of the Alicante Provincial Council in archaeological excavations at a symposium in France.

Manuel Olcina, director of MARQArchaeological Museum of Alicante, participates in the symposium Museums and Archaeology in which he will give a talk on the Alicante Provincial Council's experience in archaeological excavations. The symposium will be held on 3 July in the French city of Lille and will include representatives from the MARQ, the British Museum, the Louvre, the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum, as well as the British Museum, the Louvain Museum and the Rijksmuseum.

The meeting to be held in the French city of Lille is organised by the Directorate of Culture of the University of Lille and aims to provide a platform for critical reflection on the active role of museums in the production, transmission and research of archaeological knowledge. It brings together students, researchers and professionals from major European institutions involved in long-term excavation projects, both in Europe and abroad. The programme prioritises the museum not only as a preservation and exhibition space, but as a dynamic actor in archaeological fieldwork, shaping research agendas, interacting with local communities and exploring complex heritage contexts.

The Museums and Archaeology Alive day will feature discussions by representatives from institutions such as the British Museum, the Louvre, the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden and the Museo Arqueológico de Alicante (MARQ), and will examine how museums contribute to shaping the scientific, cultural and political challenges of archaeology by fostering interdisciplinary and professional dialogue. This study day aims to deepen our understanding of museum-led archaeological practices and their public and academic impact.

The event will be recorded by the audiovisual service of the University of Lille and will be available online.
