A journey through the rich history of the city, from the surprising manifestations of cave art in the Catxupa cave to such important Iberian sites as the Alt de Benimaquia or the great fortress of Penya de l'Àguila...

DÉNIA, ARCHAEOLOGY AND MUSEUM is an exhibition that is the result of the Collaboration Agreement signed between the C.V. MARQ Foundation and the Dénia Town Council, promoted by the Diputación de Alicante, through the MARQ, Museo Arqueológico de Alicante and the MAD, Museu Arqueològic de la Ciutat de Dénia. The exhibition has the collaboration of a dozen museums, archives and national and international foundations that have lent their pieces in order to facilitate the historical contextualisation of the city and its hinterland.

The exhibition proposes a journey through the rich history of the city, from the surprising manifestations of cave art in the Catxupa cave to Iberian sites as important as the Alt de Benimaquia, one of the oldest wine-growing centres on the Peninsula, or the great fortress of Penya de l'Àguila on the Montgó. Another fundamental milestone is the foundation of the Roman city of Dianiumwhose evolution gave rise to the Islamic medina in Dāniyaone of the main ports of the Islamic Mediterranean, to pass, without interruption, to the town of Dénia, a city since 1612.

The exhibition will show visitors a striking and novel museographic and design discourse, based on the duality existing between the SEA and the LAND, as two essential and complementary elements that fill the history of Dénia and its territory with meaning.
