Rediscovery of a section of the medieval Christian wall at the Almansa Gate (Villena, Alicante). (2014)

By: Hernández Alcaraz, Laura, Pérez Amorós, Luz

We present the results obtained in the emergency intervention carried out in 2010 in the vicinity of the so-called Puerta de Almansa, at the beginning of the Ramón y Cajal road in Villena. The stratigraphic probing carried out next to a section of the medieval wall allowed the study of this fence and provided movable materials dating back to the beginning of the 14th century, in accordance with the date of construction mentioned in the written sources. Its preservation constitutes one of the milestones verifying the layout proposed at the time by J.MªSoler.
