Neolithic
Ca. 4000 BC.
Fragment of ceramic vessel from a medium- or large-sized oxidising-fired vessel, decorated with red paint, probably ochre, consisting of a series of triangles aligned horizontally, interspersed with zigzag lines.
The most important aspect of the piece is undoubtedly its decoration, with motifs that are widely represented in contexts of the full and advanced Neolithic of the eastern façade of the peninsula, although in general the Montgó piece is first and foremost closely related to eastern Andalusia and Murcia. It is precisely here, in the Cueva de los Tiestos de Jumella, where its closest parallels can be found, which are now joined by those found in the settlement of Niuet, in Alqueria d'Asnar.
