It is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Valencian Community and was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1961. It preserves the entire urban area (30,000 m2) inside the walls. A visit allows us to understand what the Roman city was like 2,200 years ago, with its forum, two thermal baths, the tabernae, the reform of the Eastern Gate and other characteristic constructions of Roman urban planning.

The occupation of the site is very extensive, but discontinuous. It has been occupied by four different cultures: the Chalcolithic, the Bronze Age, the Iberian and the Roman. Throughout the visit, remains from all of them can be seen, but most of the information and structures correspond to the Iberian settlement from the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. It is an important commercial enclave, a distributor of goods from other parts of the Mediterranean, and a centre for the production of salted fish and wine.
