INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2024

PROGRAMMING

5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 March 2024 

 

The Fundación CV MARQ joins the celebration of International Women's Day 2024 with a programme of activities, which focuses on women from a historical perspective. 

In a world facing multiple crises that put communities under immense pressure, securing the rights of women and girls in all spheres of life is the best way to ensure sustainable development.This 8 March, International Women's Day is being celebrated under the theme "Women's rights for sustainable development".Investing in women, accelerating progress".

Visitors to MARQ on 8 March will be able to learn about the role played by women throughout history, through a Interactive QR with questions that will take them through the different rooms of the Museum's permanent collection, focusing on women. 

The Diputación de Alicante, through the Fundación CV MARQ and its Didactics, Accessibility, Club Llumiq and Social Responsibility Unit, has designed the following programme of activities:

 

5 March 

At the General University Hospital of Alicante

11:00 to 12:00h: OCU TalentThis activity will show us what daily life would have been like in prehistoric times and aims to promote the values of women's work and the importance of women in the development of our societies. 

The workshop will take place within the project A fairytale hospital we carry out with the Hospital Pedagogical Unit of the Hospital General Universitario de Alicante Doctor Balmis for hospitalised children.

6 March

In the Alicante Penitentiary Centre

11:00 to 12:00h: Talk on the legacies of MARQ. Gender archaeology and women's studies are gaining increasing prominence in the landscape of historical and social disciplines, while providing alternative approaches and readings of women's historical experience. Through this talk we will focus on the material record on display in the Museum's permanent collections related to the social role of women. 

Talk to be held as part of the project Return with a new story we develop with the Alicante Penitentiary Centre.

7 March

In the APSA-Alicante Training Centre

9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Talk Women in Roman timesin which we will talk about the role of women in Roman society. 

This talk will take place within the project History without barriers. MARQ-APSA.

8 March

At the MARQ, Archaeological Museum of Alicante

11:00 to 12:00h: Talk Behind the Veils of History: The Great Monarchs of the Pastwhere we will take a short tour through some of the most important queens in history. 

This activity will take place in the MARQ's Meeting Room, as part of the project "MARQ + 65". that we carry out with Aulas de la Tercera Edad (ASAUTE) of Alicante. 

 

At the La Illeta dels Banyets site

10:00 to 12:00h: Discovering our ancestorsThe activity consists of an excavation workshop for schoolchildren. Participants will also learn about the role of archaeology in gender studies. Workshop for schoolchildren. By prior arrangement.

10 March

At the MARQ, Archaeological Museum of Alicante

12:00 to 13:30h: Animated visit to the Prehistoric Hall and workshop on Cave Painting. Participants will be able to find out what daily life was like in prehistoric times with our friend Cavernus. During the activity we will show the importance that women have had in the development of our societies and we will finish with a didactic workshop on cave painting.  Activity aimed at families with children between 5 and 10 years old. Registration by telephone and at the MARQ ticket offices. Free activity.
