The Provincial Government of Alicante, led by Alicante Archaeology Museum (MARQ), as part of its Programme of Archaeological Investigations, is undertaking a new research project to study the Neolithic and Chalcolithic levels in the Cova del Randero. This cave is located in the Marina Alta area of Alicante province.
The archaeological team carrying out this project is led by the project’s co-directors, Jorge A. Soler Díaz, Curator of Prehistory at MARQ, and Consuelo Roca de Togores Muñoz, Collections Officer at MARQ. Technical support is provided by the company ARPA Patrimonio and the project is supported by the local Pedreguer Town Council.

Two excavation campaigns (in September 2007 and 2008) have so far been carried out in the Cova del Randero. A number of students and graduates from Alicante University have also participated in these excavations. This September a team of seven volunteers from the Universities of Madrid, Santiago de Compostela, Alicante, and from the University of la Sapienza in Rome will all be involved.
